Steven Hochwald, MD, FACS, Chosen to Join Esteemed Surgical Association

The American Surgical Association (ASA), the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic society for surgeons recently elected Roswell Park’s Steven Hochwald, MD, FACS, Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery, as a new Fellow. This membership gives Dr. Hochwald an honored seat at the table of the most prominent surgeons from the country’s leading academic medical institutions.

Founded in 1880, the ASA’s mission as the premier organization for surgical science and scholarship is to promote excellence, innovation and integrity in science, education, and patient care. oward this goal, ASA provides a national forum for presenting and developing the state-of-the-art in science and surgery, and the elevation of the profession’s standards. The association’s annual scientific meeting brings together leading surgeons and scientists from North America and other continents to present and discuss the latest clinical and research findings related to surgical specialties.

“Admission to this society is confirmation of superior academic achievement and expertise,” says Dr. Hochwald. “It is an honor and privilege to be awarded membership to this society.” Dr. Hochwald is one of only four ASA members in the Buffalo area, joining Roswell Park’s Surgeon-in-Chief William Cance, MD, FACS, with the distinction.
