BUFFALO, N.Y. — Following a national search, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has promoted Andrew Storer, PhD, DNP, RN, NP-C, FAANP, as Chief Nursing Officer, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Associate Professor of Oncology.

On staff at Roswell Park since 2020, Dr. Storer takes on the CNO role following the retirement this month of longtime nurse leader Mary Ann Long, MS, RN. As Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Storer will focus on leading all nursing teams at the center and evaluate services across inpatient, outpatient and community practices.

Dr. Storer’s commitment to the calling is evidenced in strong progress made in nursing education and staff engagement. Previously Deputy Chief Nursing Officer as well as Executive Director of Nursing Professional Development, Practice and Research, he has played a pivotal part in expanding learning and career opportunities for oncology nurses at all levels and advancing oncology nursing science. Most recently, the Marie E. Bogner Center for Nursing Excellence opened under Long and Dr. Storer’s guidance, giving Roswell Park nurses a dedicated space to develop their skills and grow in their careers.

Dr. Storer serves as clinical editor for the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Society and has been recognized nationally as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for his contributions to nurse practitioner education and practice.

“Dr. Storer has accomplished so much at Roswell Park in such a short amount of time and his trajectory for excellence is only expected to continue,” says Jeff A. Walker, MBA, Executive Vice President of Operations and Transformation at Roswell Park. “There is no better individual suited to collaborate with our passionate nurses, and we are excited to see what he does in this leadership role.”

Dr. Storer holds his PhD from the University at Hawaii at Manoa and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Thomas Jefferson University.
