Roswell Park Appoints Chair of Cancer Genetics and Genomics

BUFFALO, N.Y. — John Krolewski, MD, PhD, has been appointed as Chair of the Department of Cancer Genetics and Genomics and Co-Leader of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Genetics and Genomics Program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He will also hold the John & Santa Palisano Endowed Chair of Cancer Genetics and Genomics. Dr. Krolewski has served as Interim Chair of the Department of Genetics and Interim Leader of the CCSG Genetics Program at Roswell Park since March 2016.

Prior to coming to Roswell Park in 2015, Dr. Krolewski was a faculty member with research and mentorship roles at Columbia University (1990–1998), the University of California, Irvine (1998–2012), and the University of Rochester (2012–2015). He served in several leadership positions at these institutions including: Co-Leader of the Carcinogenesis Program at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UC Irvine; Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the U of R; and Leader of the Solid Tumor Program at the Wilmot Cancer Institute at the U of R.

The Department of Cancer Genetics and Genomics at Roswell Park is dedicated to improving our understanding of mechanisms and pathways through which cells change to become cancer cells. Identifying genes and pathways involved in cell cycle control will improve our understanding of cancer and can lead to innovative new personalized therapies.
