Western New York Girl Scouts Honor Roswell Park President & CEO as 2019 Woman of Distinction

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Girl Scouts of Western New York are hosting their annual Women of Distinction event on September 26, 2019, honoring nine area women for their strength, dedication and service to the community — with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s top official, Candace S. Johnson, PhD, among them.

The event features a dinner and awards ceremony to celebrate the nine local leaders. Dr. Johnson and her fellow honorees were nominated by members of the community for showing demonstrated leadership through public service. Her nominator spoke of Dr. Johnson’s advocacy of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and how she believes in the “power of the G.I.R.L.”

Those selected were each paired with a Girl Scout to promote mentorship, inspiration and to present the award to their respective honoree. Dr. Johnson will receive her award from Megan Q. of Hamburg, N.Y., a Girl Scout Ambassador. This is Dr. Johnson’s second Women of Distinction honor; she was also recognized in 1998.

Women of Distinction is a nationwide Girl Scouts of the USA program that not only recognizes the achievements of women, but also provides educational and mentoring opportunities for troops across the country.
