Media Advisory: Eva M. Noles Scholarship to be Presented to Roswell Park Employee December 7

Rev. Darius Pridgen from True Bethel Baptist Church to keynote; cancer disparities staff, volunteers to be honored

WHAT:           The fifth annual Eva M. Noles Scholarship & Community Recognition Breakfast honoring the legacy of Eva M. Noles, RN, Director of Nursing at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1971-74, Buffalo’s first African-American registered nurse

• The Rev. Darius G. Pridgen, Senior Pastor of True Bethel Baptist Church, will deliver the keynote address. Rev. Pridgen preaches at four weekly services from two locations on Buffalo’s East Side, and reaches a broader audience through the Internet. He is also Ellicott District Common Council Member for the City of Buffalo and serves on the Board of Trustees at Medaille College.

• During the program, an Roswell Park employee who represents an underrepresented group and is presently pursuing a degree at a local accredited college or university will receive the fourth Eva M. Noles Scholarship, an annual educational award totaling $1,000.

• The program will highlight the efforts of the Office of Cancer Health Disparities Research at Roswell Park, and will include special recognition for staff and volunteers who have provided cancer education and prevention activities and outreach to underserved communities throughout Western New York.
