Internationally Recognized Speaker Presents at Roswell Park

BUFFALO, NY - Brent James, MD, MStat, presented a Special Seminar at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center July 7, discussing "Quality: An Imperative for Organizational Development." Dr. James is the chief quality officer at Intermountain Healthcare, a network of hospitals and clinics in Utah and Idaho. He is known internationally for his work in clinical quality improvement, patient safety and the infrastructure that underlies successful improvement efforts, such as culture change, data systems, payment methods and management roles. In addition to his duties at Intermountain Health Care, Dr. James is adjunct professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. He also holds a Visiting Lectureship in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is a member of a number of national taskforces and committees that examine health care quality and cost control, including AHRQ and his most recent appointment by the Federal Comptroller to an advisory group on making American health care more accessible and affordable. In 2005, Dr. James also received an award from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognizing his vision and energy in making the U.S. health care system better. After his presentation, Dr. James met with Roswell Park administrators, including Donald L. Trump, MD, FACP, President and CEO; Judy Smith, MD, MS, CPE, FACS, Medical Director; Maureen Kelly, RN, MS, Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer; as well as several members of Roswell Park's faculty.
