Students get a hands-on learning experience!

This summer, 52 scholars arrived on campus on Monday, July 8, 2024, from a variety of public and city schools.

We were honored to also have 12 returning student assistants, who joined us this year as veteran participants to mentor our BHE participants. The median age of BHE participant is 16, over 30 BHE participants are female, and they come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

Our pre-program survey results indicate that scholars’ main reasons for participating in BHE include:

  • a strong interest in healthcare careers
  • a desire to gain hands-on experience
  • to learn new skills
  • advice on completing college/university applications.

BHE has six core pillars

Innovation
Compassion for Community
Empathy (Patient Education)
Visualization of Complex Concepts
Educations
Career Path Understanding

The program provided me with new insights and skills that I’m eager to apply in my future endeavors. I particularly appreciated the chance to interact with cancer survivors and develop, as you called them, my soft skills. Thank you once again for facilitating such a remarkable experience. If there are any follow-up actions or additional resources you recommend, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.”
