A second opinion can be both helpful and reassuring, and it’s especially important when it comes to melanoma. It’s the best way to ensure that your initial diagnosis is accurate, that the recommended treatment strategy is right for you, and that your treatment team has the training and experience to provide you the best possible outcome.

Why it matters for melanoma

A consultation with a multidisciplinary team of experts who focus on melanoma every day, is essential to:

• Ensure your diagnosis and staging is accurate. At Roswell Park, all biopsies for melanoma are analyzed by dermatopathologists, specifically trained in diagnosing diseases of the skin.
• Determine whether you should have immunotherapy before surgery, an approach that can potentially improve survival and avoid unnecessary surgery.
• Achieve optimal surgical outcomes. A surgeon’s experience matters, not only for effective cancer control, but for cosmetic result, too.
• Access to TIL therapy or Amtagvi™ (lifileucel). Roswell Park is an authorized treatment center, the only one in the region, for Amtagvi, a newly FDA-approved treatment for metastatic melanoma.
• Determine whether your melanoma is related to an inherited genetic condition.
