Ride for Roswell finish line

Ride for Roswell surpasses $5 million thanks to generous $59,065 gift from the West Herr Automotive Group

The 2021 Ride was held on Saturday, August 7

BUFFALO, NY - The 2021 Ride for Roswell took place this past weekend with thousands of riders taking on routes between 3 and 100 miles beginning at four locations across Western New York: Buffalo Outer Harbor, Grand Island, Niagara County Community College and the University at Buffalo.

After an emotional Celebration of Hope event on Friday night with a peloton of 130 riders, a procession of doctors, researchers, patients and the lighting of the torch by a breast cancer survivor, Ride Day brought even more opportunity to celebrate as 6,000 riders and 1,500 volunteers showed up to end cancer. At the end of the day, the team announced an incredible $4.9 million raised by riders, volunteers and donors.

The West Herr Automotive Group, presenting sponsor of the Ride for Roswell, was inspired by the return of the Celebration of Hope and the energy of the riders putting in the miles for cancer research that today, they donated $59,065 to put the 2021 Ride fundraising total over $5 million.

“Seeing and hearing countless inspiring stories at the Ride’s Celebration of Hope and Ride Day this past weekend reinforced how important the funds raised by this community for cancer patients truly are,” said Scott Bieler, president of West Herr. “We are proud to be part of an incredible community that understands the importance of supporting Roswell Park’s mission, and I’m proud to help the Ride for Roswell reach an incredible $5 million this year.”

“Having a partner like the West Herr Automotive Group on our side in the fight against cancer gives us hope that one day no one will have to fear a cancer diagnosis,” says Candace Johnson, PhD, president and CEO, Roswell Park. “It’s because of the support of West Herr and Western New Yorkers that Roswell Park is able to continue to launch new groundbreaking research, treatments, clinical trials — bringing hope to so many cancer patients and families in this community.”

The money raised by the Ride for Roswell fuels new treatment options; facilitates clinical trials for both common and rare types of cancers; supports the costs of important medical testing not covered by insurance; and makes possible quality of life programs that assist with non-medical needs to help patients remember that cancer doesn’t define them.

The 2021 Ride for Roswell season culminates on Friday, August 27 with an hourlong TV special that will show all Roswell Park donors the impact of their support.

The 2022 Ride for Roswell will take place on Saturday, June 25 with the Celebration of Hope the night before.

Since the first ride in 1996, the Ride for Roswell has raised close to $63 million for cancer research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and more than 120,000 riders and 25,000 volunteers have participated over the past 25 years.
