The Ride For Roswell Launches Registration for 2016 Event on June 24 and 25

Fundraiser will feature new and expanded route options for participants

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Ride For Roswell, presented by West Herr Automotive Group, has launched registration for its 2016 event on June 24 and 25. Cancer advocates, community members and bicyclists of every skill level can now sign up to ride, volunteer or donate to the cause by visiting RideForRoswell.org.

Every year, more than 8,000 riders, 2,000 volunteers and countless supporters take part in The Ride to raise funds for cancer research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Ride is the single largest fundraising event in Western New York and North America’s largest single-day cycling fundraiser.

“We are excited to be gearing up for another successful and fun Ride For Roswell! This event is a chance for us as a community to come together and play a meaningful role in the fight against cancer, and we are so grateful for all our supporters who continue to make this Western New York tradition a success by riding, volunteering, donating or celebrating with us,” said Bryan Sidorowicz, Director, Ride For Roswell.

The 2016 fundraiser will feature new and expanded route options, including an additional 10-mile route — a classic and beloved river route option —as well as a 20-mile Olmsted route that will start at Roswell Park, take riders along Frederick Law Olmsted’s famed parkways and include a rest stop at the historic H.H. Richardson Center. These added options will allow more spots for riders to participate, especially those who feel more comfortable riding shorter distances.

“We’ll also be adding spots to the 44-Mile Canada route, which debuted in 2015 and quickly became one of our most popular routes,” said Sidorowicz. “This year, two waves of riders will leave from Roswell Park, ride over the Peace Bridge and along the Niagara River on this international adventure.”

Ride Weekend will begin on Friday, June 24 with the Peloton, a 12-mile route that is reserved for top fundraisers who will each raise $1,000 or more. The Peloton riders will ride in two-by-two formation from Roswell Park through the City of Buffalo and into the University at Buffalo as part of the Celebration of Hope, a community-wide rally against cancer. On Saturday, June 25, after months of fundraising efforts, thousands of riders will embark from both UB and Roswell Park on routes ranging from 3 to 102 miles.

Last year, The Ride raised a record-setting $4.6 million for the fight against cancer. Since the first Ride For Roswell in 1996, the event has raised more than $30 million for Roswell Park, and more than 80,000 riders and 20,000 volunteers have participated in The Ride.
