Teen Cancer Survivors and Patients to Dance the Night Away at Prom

Many teens with cancer are unable to attend their high school’s prom because of their diagnosis. But in Western New York, a social support program at Roswell Park called Teens Living with Cancer (TLC) is helping to ensure that these teens don’t have to miss the milestone occasion. TLC will be hosting its second annual prom for teen cancer survivors and patients on Friday. The event allows the teens to enjoy prom with other high schoolers who understand what they’re going through.

Kelcie Bettingen, a 14-year-old cancer survivor, will be attending Friday’s event, and was a guest at last year’s prom, as well.

“My experience at the Teens Living with Cancer prom was amazing. I had all of my friends there and other teens that I never thought I'd ever meet,” she said. “I danced like I was the only girl in the world. As I always remember that night, I smile because that night was the best night in the whole world.”

The TLC Prom will take place from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, June 5 at the Hotel at the Lafayette.
