Media Advisory: Roswell Park Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Join Roswell Park to celebrate the Hispanic culture and contributions of community leaders

WHAT: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Roswell Park Hispanic Employee Network & Resource Group will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

WHERE: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, David C. Hohn, MD, Lecture Hall (located on the first floor of the Research Studies Center at Carlton & Elm Streets)

NOTES: National Hispanic Heritage Month is dedicated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, as well as from Central and South America.

Roswell Park’s free, public event includes:

  • Discussions from Hispanic community leaders in the WNY region, including Dora Esplugas, a member of Vive la Casa; Ramon Luciano, an Roswell Park retiree and volunteer; Charley Torres, president of the Puerto Rican & Hispanic Day Parade of Western New York; and Eugenio Russi, director of Hispanic United.
  • Singing and dancing performances by Baila Salsa Dance Company (Calvin & Fanny), Las Drama Queens, Jennifer Arroyo, and Laurie Krupski.
  • David A. Rivera, Niagara District Common Council Member, will receive an appreciation award for his tireless dedication and close ties to the Hispanic community. Councilmember Rivera, former president of the Puerto Rican-Chicano Committee, as well as Hispanics United of Buffalo, has identified economic development, housing stock improvement, sustainable waterfront development, and youth programming opportunities as his top priorities.
  • Dinner reception featuring traditional Spanish cuisine.
