Media Advisory: Car Show, Screening Event at Roswell Park to Benefit MAN UP Prostate Cancer Survivor Group

WHAT:           Prostate cancer has a disproportional impact on African-American men, who are 1.5 times more likely to develop prostate cancer and 2-3 times more likely to die of the disease than white men. Prostate cancer is also the most-diagnosed cancer in Hispanic men.

Early detection and education can significantly reduce those disparities. To draw attention to prostate cancer risk factors and the importance of testing for this disease — particularly among high-risk groups like African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) will host Cruisin’ for a Cure, a car show and screening event. All proceeds will be donated to MAN UP, Minorities Allied for the Need to Understand Prostate Cancer, an Roswell Park-affiliated group committed to helping men of color make informed decisions about prostate-cancer screening, treatment and survivorship. 

The day will feature music, door prizes, raffles and food vendors. Free prostate cancer education and screening will be offered for all men 40 years and older. Vehicles and clubs welcome. The car show is open to all special vehicles, including cars, trucks and motorcycles; cost $10 per vehicle registration. Awards to be presented.

Parking available in Roswell Park parking ramp on Carlton Street; enter from Michigan Ave., as parts of Elm and Carlton streets will not be accessible.
