Join Roswell Park and the Bosom Buddies in the Walk Against Breast Cancer

Buffalo, NY – Individuals of all ages are invited to walk in the 17th annual Bosom Buddies Walk on September 17 in historic East Aurora to benefit the Western New York Breast Resource Center at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group will build on the $700,000 it has already raised through the event’s history. Participants will walk down East Aurora’s Main Street amidst crowds of supporters and volunteers.

Individuals can choose routes between 1.5, 3 or 5 miles in length and receive rewards for fundraising. Walks begin starting at 10 am with registration starting at 9:30 am at East Aurora Middle School. Incentive prizes include gift cards from area vendors. A free t-shirt will be awarded to all walkers who raise a minimum of $75.

The breast cancer support group was founded in 1993 by longtime friends Doreen Mortimer and Bunkie Hawk after they were both diagnosed with breast cancer and declared themselves bosom buddies. Sadly, Doreen lost her battle, but the walk continues in her honor, and in honor of all breast cancer patients.

The goal of the Bosom Buddies support group is to ease the fears of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer and support women whose breast cancer has recurred. Funds raised by the annual walk support the Western New York Breast Resource Center at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The resource center is open to all patients and their familes, regardless of where they receive treatment. It offers a wealth of breast cancer educational information, a free wig and scarf service, and referrals to support programs.
