BUFFALO, NY - More than 370 swimmers today took to Buffalo’s waterfront at Carly’s Crossing 2010, raising more than $120,000 for Carly’s Club at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Carly’s Club provides support programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families and raises funds for research of childhood cancers. Swimmers chose from a 600-yard or 1-mile non-competitive course, or a 1-mile timed course at Gallagher Beach in Lake Erie’s Small Boat Harbor. The event also featured a family-friendly after-party on the beach, offering games, contests, live music, food and more.
Carly’s Crossing, presented by Creditors Interchange, was established in 2002 in honor of Carly Collard Cottone, who founded Carly’s Club to benefit her fellow patients during her own cancer battle. Since its inception, Carly’s Crossing has raised more than $600,000 to support promising pediatric cancer research and patient care programs.
“The community has again demonstrated overwhelming support for Carly’s Crossing and the pediatric patients and research it supports,” said Chuck Collard, chair of Carly’s Club and a volunteer member of the Roswell Park Alliance Community Advisory Board. “Our swimmers, donors and volunteers have made an important difference in the lives of Carly’s Club members and their families, providing invaluable support as they face their experiences with cancer.”
