Roswell Park and Meadville Medical Center to bring Leading Cancer Research and Care to Northwest PA

Network affiliation will produce exciting and dynamic opportunities for patients and Meadville Medical Center staff

Starting on January 1, 2010, cancer patients in Meadville and Northwest Pennsylvania will have access to leading cancer research, education and prevention activities, through an agreement signed between Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Meadville Medical Center.

The affiliation provides exciting and dynamic opportunities to promote the academic and clinical missions of both institutions, thereby enhancing care for the patients at the Meadville Medical Center. Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, located in Buffalo, NY, is considered to be one of the national leaders in cancer research, treatment, prevention and education.

Together, we will be able to enhance the quality of cancer care to patients, their families and communities throughout Northwest Pennsylvania.”

The Meadville Medical Center is the newest affiliate to join the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Regional Network. The network currently partners with 10 institutions, including regional cities such as Jamestown, NY, Bradford, PA, Olean, NY, as well as international organizations in China, Jordan, and Puerto Rico.

As a network member, Meadville will enter into collaborative relationships with Roswell Park on matters involving medical education, cancer prevention, and outreach, as well as clinical care of patients in Meadville’s geographic service area. The region will also benefit from Meadville Medical Center’s patients, employees and medical staff physicians who will be able to participate in Roswell Park’s outreach and network programs, which includes community education, cancer prevention, clinical care, and professional educational programs.

Meadville Medical Center is an outstanding community hospital located in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The hospital continually works to meet the community's needs by maintaining up to date and state-of-the-art facilities. Meadville Medical Center is a leader in healthcare in northwestern Pennsylvania, with the newest technology, including the latest generation of ultrasound, CT and MRI technology. The Center’s medical staff of over 100 consists of 37 medical/surgical specialties, with an extensive primary care foundation.

The mission of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is to understand, prevent and cure cancer. Roswell Park, founded in 1898, was one of the first cancer centers in the country to be named a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and remains the only facility with this designation in Upstate New York. The Institute is a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the nation’s leading cancer centers; maintains affiliate sites; and is a partner in national and international collaborative programs.
