Roswell Park Nurse to Serve National Medical-Surgical Nursing Board

BUFFALO, NY – Mimi Haskins, MS, RN, CMSRN, a member of the Nursing Staff Development Department at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB). She will assume her role in September 2009.

The MSNCB establishes credentials for validating proficiency in medical-surgical nursing. It is accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS). Certification recognizes that a medical-surgical nurse has met the highest standards of medical-surgical nursing practice. The credential earned through MSNCB is Certified Medical –Surgical Registered Nurse or CMSRN®.

Ms. Haskins came to Roswell Park from the Catholic Health System where she served as Staff Development Educator. She also served as Quality Management Coordinator of the Specialty Hospital of Lorain, an adjunct faculty member of Lorain County Community College, and a Nurse Manager for Med-Surgical and Social Services at the Bellevue Hospital.

Ms. Haskins earned a Master of Science degree from the University at Buffalo in 1998 and is a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse. She is a member of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), District I-New York State Nurses Association, Staff Development Educators of Western NY, National Nursing Staff Development Organization and Oncology Nursing Society.

Medical-surgical nurses, who comprise one of the largest groups of practicing nursing professionals in the health care industry, specializes in knowledge of the entire spectrum of nursing care. The MSNCB mission is to “recognize the professionalism and expertise of the medical-surgical nurse.” MSNCB is associated with the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), a professional nursing organization for medical-surgical nurses.
