Television Emmy Awarded to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

“Cancer Can’t Win – Strong” recognized for excellence

Representatives of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and MediaSource accept a 2015 Emmy for the television documentary “Cancer Can’t Win – Strong.”

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center received a prestigious New York Emmy® for the video “Cancer Can’t Win – Strong.” The video is one segment of a three-part documentary that aired in primetime in three New York state markets in autumn 2014. This video episode tells the story of two Roswell Park patients’ cancer journeys.

“The Marketing Department and its Creative Services team at Roswell Park is honored to receive an Emmy from the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences,” says Laurel DiBrog, Vice President of Marketing, Planning, Public Affairs and Customer Management at Roswell Park. “The award recognizes the quality of the video produced by the team, but the spirit of the full-length documentary was developed to inspire and offer hope to patients diagnosed with cancer as well as their families. Cancer touches everyone, whether you are the one diagnosed or watching its impact on the person in your circle. I think this documentary resonated with the viewers. How could it not? We are all vulnerable to the words ‘You have cancer.' "

Roswell Park Director of Creative Services Ben Richey adds, “The Emmy is a tribute to the hard-working team at Roswell Park, who strive every day to tell patient stories that reflect their cancer journey. It’s important to also recognize the patients who openly shared their heartfelt, deeply personal stories so that others might be comforted by their experiences. This video and the recognition of its excellence with the Emmy simply wouldn’t have been possible without them.”

The Roswell Park documentary was one out of four candidates in the Health/Science: Program/Special category. Roswell Park also was nominated for another segment, “Cancer Can’t Win – Dreams.” The Roswell Park Marketing team collaborated on the documentary series with MediaSource, a media relations and content production firm located in Columbus, Ohio. The video can be viewed online.

Those awarded for their work on this video include DiBrog and Richey as well as Rolando Rosado, Roswell Park Senior Producer/Editor, and Jerred Ziegler, Robert Leitch and Clark Powell, all from MediaSource.

Roswell Park multimedia projects have been recognized for excellence by several organizations from the communications industry. These include a Bronze Award in the 36th annual Telly Awards for “It’s All About Tomorrow,” a Ride for Roswell original song production/music video. The song is also available for download on iTunes, with proceeds benefiting cancer research at Roswell Park.

Roswell Park also received two Gold Awards in the 2015 AVA Digital Awards competition, an international contest hosted by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) that recognizes excellence by creative professionals responsible for digital communications. The Gold Awards were given to: “It’s All About Tomorrow,” for creativity in video production, and to Roswell Park Nurses “Compassionate Care" for video production/corporate image.
