Roswell Park's Adjei Named To IASLC Board Of Directors

BUFFALO, NY — Alex A. Adjei, MD, PhD, FACP, Senior Vice President of Clinical Research and Katherine Anne Gioia Chair in Cancer Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named to the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). He will hold this position until 2015.

Dr. Adjei's term began at the conclusion of the 14th World Conference on Lung Cancer, held in Amsterdam in July. He joins members from 10 countries on the IASLC Board.

“Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in men and women, in the U.S. as well as abroad,” Dr. Adjei said. “The IASLC is truly global in its makeup and its reach, giving us a great opportunity to reduce mortality — dramatically — and improve quality of life for survivors in every corner of the world.”

Dr. Adjei is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and received his Board certification in medical oncology. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School, and his PhD from the University of Alberta. Dr. Adjei completed a residency at Howard University and a fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is the only global organization dedicated to the study of lung cancer. Founded in 1972, the association’s membership includes more than 3,000 lung cancer specialists in 80 countries.
