About Sanjay Gupta

Biography:

Dr Sanjay Gupta is the Chief Medical Officer of BryLin Hospital, a free-standing psychiatric hospital in Buffalo, NY. He is also the medical director of Endeavor Health Services which is a multi-site Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Western Newy York serving those suffering from psychiatric and substance use disorders. His academic appointments include a Clinical Professorship in the Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Buffalo, NY. His group Amherst Psychiatry is providing psychiatric inpatient consultations and running an outpatient psychiatry clinic at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. His practice includes adult and geriatric psychiatry as well as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Gupta is the author and coauthor of over 150 articles in such notable medical journals as the New England Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Psychiatry. He serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry, Schizophrenia Research, and the Journal of Affective Disorders.  He is the deputy editor of the Annals of Clinical Psychiatry. He has served in the past on the panel for Inspection of Care for the Office of Mental Health of the State of New York.

Dr. Gupta was the president and founder of Global Research & Consulting, Inc. This company conducted phase II, III and IV clinical research in all areas of psychiatry.  Dr Gupta is also the past president of the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists (2008-2010). He also served as the chair of the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation (2009-2011).

Dr. Gupta received his doctorate in medicine at the University of Delhi, India. He completed his psychiatry residency at State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse, NY, followed by a NIMH-sponsored postdoctoral schizophrenia and brain imaging fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics’ Mental Health Clinical Research Center in Iowa City, Iowa under the mentorship of Dr. Nancy Andreasen. This included time spent at Karolinska Institute in Sweden as a visiting scientist. He is a member of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry as well as the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatry.
