About Michael R. Markiewicz

Biography:

Educated in both Medicine and Dentistry, I feel very fortunate to be trained by some of the most notable Head and Neck, Craniofacial, and Reconstructive Surgeons in the world. My passion is treating children and adults with acquired and congenital pathology, anomalies, and deformities of the head and neck, and training the next generation of surgeons. As a Buffalo native, I completed a dental degree at the University at Buffalo. I then went on to earn a Medical Degree from Oregon Health and Science University, where I subsequently completed a General Surgery Internship and Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Given my interest in patient-oriented research, I pursued further training in biostatistics and epidemiology, completing a Master of Public Health from Harvard University and a fellowship in Clinical Investigation at Massachusetts General Hospital.

I finished off my training by completing a fellowship in Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and then a fellowship in Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery & Microvascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Florida, Jacksonville, Florida. I was recruited to Chicago where I worked several years with an amazing team of Surgeons before being recruited back to Buffalo to lead the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

I feel very fortunate to join the talented team at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and be able to care for children and adults who suffer from various forms of head and neck cancer other acquired and congenital conditions. My Clinical and Research passion is full functional rehabilitation of the patient, removing the disease entity while restoring function and esthetics.
