A postdoctoral position is open for a highly motivated candidate in the laboratory of Dr. Yasmin Thanavala, Department of Immunology, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo NY. Roswell Park is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The project you will be working on is newly funded by the NIH. The project is an extension of long-term studies conducted in the laboratory of the PI Dr. Thanavala and her collaborator on the effects of smoking and vaping e-cigarettes on mucosal and systemic pulmonary and immune changes. The candidate will utilize an established and extensively validated in vivo animal model of chronic inhalation exposure to emissions from tobacco products to evaluate pulmonary function, markers of damage, and inflammation in mice exposed to emission from ENDS containing synthetic coolants.
The successful candidate will have a recent PhD in immunology or closely related discipline, and a track record of first-class science demonstrated by first-author peer-reviewed scientific articles. Required qualifications for the position include in-depth expertise in flow cytometry, ample experience with mouse work, experience with cell cultures and cell-based assays. The candidate must have demonstrated scientific creativity and independence through publications and interest in basic and translational biomedical research. Must have strong experimental skills and ability to develop, troubleshoot and balance workflow. Personal qualities such as strong drive and motivation, scientific curiosity, critical thinking abilities, collaboration, strong written and oral communication skills, creativity and analytical skills are essential. The fellow would be expected to present/attend in-house departmental seminars, national scientific conferences and draft research manuscripts of their findings and would be encouraged to apply for independent funding.
