Rederivation of Horizontally-Transmitted Pathogens

Frozen or Fresh Embryos

The Gene Targeting and Transgenic Shared Resource will rederive mouse strains from fresh or frozen embryos at the request of the investigator.

Animals will be transferred to quarantine after surgical transfer of embryos. The resoure will also work with investigators to rederive mouse lines from dirty facilities into the clean facilities here at Roswell. In this situation, arrangements will need to be made with the resource regarding where the mice are currently housed and how the resource will receive embryos for transfer. Animals will be transferred to quarantine after surgical transfer of embryos.

In Vitro Fertilization

Embryos will be created and then rederived as above. Please see IVF for details.

**Note: After surgical transfers of washed embryos are done, per diem charges at the Gene Targeting and Transgenic Shared Resource's rate will be charged to investigators.

When pups are weaned, tailing can be done to check genotype. Based on the results, the foster mom will be sent out for pathology testing done from RADIL at University of Missouri. The cost of pathology testing depends on the prior pathogen status of the animals, as well as how many animals are born. When the animals are cleared by Laboratory Animals Shared Resource, they will then be transferred to the Investigator’s room.
