How is Palonosetron Administered?

Your medicine will be given by given intravenously (IV), which means it will be given through a tube placed in a vein, usually in your arm, wrist, hand or chest.    It is recommended that palonosetron be given approximately 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. (A single dose that takes 30 seconds to receive.)

What Is It Used For?

This drug is used to prevent acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.

How Does it Work?

Palonosetron is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist – it is believed to interfere with the stomach’s ability to send messages of nausea/vomiting to the part of the brain that contains the “vomiting center”.
