What is it Used For?
The interferon alpha drugs are used to treat some types of leukemia and other cancers.
How Does Inteferon Alpha Work?
Interferon alpha is a type of immunotherapy; therapy that stimulates your body’s own immune system to change the way it responds to cancer cells, and help fight the cancer. Interferon alfa reacts with receptors on the outside of the cells and disturbs these cells’ ability to reproduce.
You may also hear the terms “biologic response modifier” or cytokine to classify this medication.
