How is it Administered?

Your medicine may be given intravenously, which means it will be injected into a vein. Infusions generally last for 1 hour. Ganciclovir may also be taken by mouth as a capsule. It is available as an ophthalmic (eye) gel, as well as an implant tablet.

What is it Used For?

Ganciclovir belongs to the family of medicines called antivirals. Antivirals treat infections caused by viruses, specifically a virus called CMV (cytomegalovirus).

How Does it Work?

Ganciclovir treats viral infections by interfering with an enzyme that the virus uses to grow and reproduce.
