Eva M. Noles Scholarship to be presented to Roswell Park Employee Tomorrow; Dr. LaVonne Ansari to keynote

WHAT: The fourth annual Eva M. Noles Recognition Program honoring the legacy of Eva M. Noles, RN, Director of Nursing at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1971-74, Buffalo’s first African-American registered nurse

LaVonne E. Ansari, PhD, CEO and Executive Director of the Community Health Center of Buffalo, Inc. (CHCB), will deliver the keynote address. The CHCB provides medical services for people of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay. The services include family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, dentistry, women’s health, psychotherapy, social work and rapid testing for HIV.

During the program, an Roswell Park employee who represents an underrepresented group and is presently pursuing a degree at a local accredited college or university will receive the third Eva M. Noles Scholarship, an annual educational award totaling $2,000.

The program will highlight the efforts of the Office of Cancer Health Disparities Research at Roswell Park, and will include special recognition for staff and volunteers who have provided cancer education and prevention activities and outreach to underserved communities throughout Western New York.

WHO:  Dr. Ansari and Deborah Erwin, PhD, Director, Roswell Park Office of Cancer Health Disparities Research, will be available for interviews.
