New Campaign Launched by Canisius College Students: A Generational Approach to a Serious Subject

Although Lance Armstrong’s high-profile bout with advanced testicular cancer did raise awareness of cancer in general and turned a much-needed spotlight on the importance of cancer research funding, many young men are still unaware of the risks and symptoms associated with testicular cancer. And most young men have never heard of – or performed – a testicular self-exam.

A March 31 press conference at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center announced the launch of a testicular cancer awareness campaign–conceived and organized entirely by students from the Communications Studies Department at Canisius College–that addresses these informational gaps. Several Roswell Park physicians, including Drs. Willie Underwood, Michael Kuettel, Roberto Pili and James Mohler, offered their support and guidance, and signed on as the campaign’s medical advisors to ensure accuracy of information and messaging.
