Research Overview:

We are currently studying the role of mitochondria in cancer. Mitochondria dysfunction is associated with tumorigenesis and resistance to cancer therapy. The mechanisms underlying these outcomes remain undefined. We have recently developed a novel method that defines mitochondria structure and function at single cell level.

These findings have significance in early detection of cancerous cells and monitoring the physiological status of single cell during cancer therapy. We study pharmacological agents to modify mitochondria function and improve cancer cell death. We utilize various biochemical and molecular approaches to interrogate cell culture and mouse models of human cancer.
