Gastric & Esophageal Cancers with Dr. S. Hochwald, survivor J. Kwarciany

Sunday, December 16, 2012

While gastric or stomach cancer shares some risk factors with esophageal cancers, there's an important distinction between these diseases: incidence of gastric cancer has been steadily decreasing in the U.S., while rates of esophageal cancer have been dramatically rising. Survivor John Kwarciany and Steven Hochwald, MD, FACS, Vice Chair and Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery, discuss the two cancers and how they're treated, hitting on the role of acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus, multimodality therapy and new minimally-invasive surgical approaches available at Roswell Park.
