Roswell Park’s Chief of Breast Medicine Honored by Susan G. Komen® Upstate New York
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Ellis Levine, MD, the Chief of Breast Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, received the Susan G. Komen® Upstate New York Hope Award on Saturday, October 6. The award is given annually to a breast health or breast cancer professional who works towards improving the lives of breast cancer survivors or conducts research to find cures.
“I am overjoyed to hear the news, but not at all surprised. All the patients we share adore Dr. Levine for his exceptional care,” says Kazuaki Takabe, MD, PhD, FACS, Clinical Chief of Breast Surgery, Alfiero Foundation Endowed Chair in Breast Oncology and Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park. “Dr. Levine has been the central pillar in our efforts on clinical trials. The Hope Award is a very well deserved honor for him.”
Marc Ernstoff, MD, the Katherine Anne Gioia Chair of Medicine and Senior Vice President for Clinical Investigation, adds, “Dr. Levine has led our Breast Cancer Program and has worked in Western New York for the past 30 years toward improving the treatment and care of women with breast cancer. We are forever grateful for his expertise, thoroughness and compassion.”
In addition to treating patients and being an expert in breast oncology, Dr. Levine is also pursuing more than 30 clinical trials. Many are focused on new treatments or therapies for patients with breast cancer or metastatic disease.
“I am humbled and honored to have received the HOPE award from Susan G. Komen Upstate New York,” says Ellis Levine, MD, Chief of Breast Medicine, Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Director and Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park. “As a specialist in breast malignancies, I continue to search for innovative breakthroughs that will help patients live longer and have a better quality of life.”
The award was presented Saturday, October 6, at the 17th Annual WNY Survivor Luncheon at the Buffalo Niagara Conventional Center.
