Roswell Park Nurse Practitioner to Present at International Myeloma Foundation Seminar

BUFFALO, NY – Kena Miller, RN, MSN, FNP, Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will discuss quality of life issues at a Patient and Family Seminar hosted by the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), August 7 - 8, in Washington, DC.The “Quality of Life” session scheduled for 2:30 pm, Friday, August 7 also will include Brian Durie, MD, Cedars-Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center and guest speakers, Alan Weinstein, PhD, and Mike Katz.

Ms. Miller also will present the lecture “Managing Side Effects” to multiple myeloma patients, caregivers and other cancer specialists attending the two day seminar. Multiple myeloma is the second most common blood cancer. An estimated 20,580 new cases of multiple myeloma (11,680 in men and 8,900 in women) will be diagnosed during 2009.

Ms. Miller, who serves as a member of the IMF Nurse Leadership Board of Directors, said, “Novel therapies, evaluated through clinical trial research at Roswell Park and at other cancer centers around the United States, have changed the way multiple myeloma patients are treated and increased survival rates. This is an excellent forum for patients and clinicians to discuss issues integral to maintaining quality of life and overall health care.”
