Roswell Park Designated Part of OptumHealth Center of Excellence Network for Adult BMT Transplantation

BUFFALO, NY – OptumHealth Care Solutions, one of the nation’s largest health and wellness companies, recognized Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as a designated member of the OptumHealth Centers of Excellence network in the area of adult bone marrow transplantation. The Centers of Excellence network was created to provide patients with the assurance they are receiving treatment from a medical center and physicians who are committed to standards of excellence.

Evaluation criteria are reviewed and revised on a regular basis in order to incorporate current quality parameters and benchmarks as they relate to the applicable field of medicine. These criteria assess a program’s:

  • Procedural volume and associated outcomes.
  • Team changes, stability of the team and the ability of the back-up team to manage the program.
  • Projected trends and technological advances in the specific field of medical science.
  • Overall commitment to its field through the synergy of multiple, related programs within the medical center.

“We selected Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center because it represents a commitment to patients during some of the most critical points of care whether they are living with cancer, heart disease, are in need of a transplant or their newborn has intensive care needs,” said Chris Pricco, chief operations officer for OptumHealth, which oversees the COE program. “We commend Roswell Park for its excellence in providing this level of quality in the care of patients.”

“We are grateful to have received this designation as it reflects OptumHealth’s support of our mission to provide quality care that is accessible to people facing serious medical challenges while also highlighting our joint commitment to help people live their lives to the fullest,” said Pamela Germain, Vice President of Managed Care at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The mission of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is to understand, prevent and cure cancer. Roswell Park, founded in 1898, was one of the first cancer centers in the country to be named a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and remains the only facility with this designation in Upstate New York. The Institute is a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the nation’s leading cancer centers; maintains affiliate sites; and is a partner in national and international collaborative programs.
