Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Responds to New York State Budget

Institute leadership extends thanks to local delegation, Governor Cuomo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and its Board of Directors thank the Western New York delegation of State Senators and Assembly Members for their tireless work in restoring $15.5 million in funding to the Institution.

Our local Senators and Assembly Members championed the inclusion of $15.5 million in capital funds in the final budget, returning Roswell’s overall funding to $102.6 million. These funds highlight the longstanding relationship between New York State and Roswell Park and our elected leaders recognize that continued investment and support is crucial to the growth of Western New York.

We also express our gratitude to Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and the State Legislature for recognizing the importance of research and jobs by restoring funding to Roswell Park, which is critical to both the economy and to cancer patients throughout the state.

“Cuts of this magnitude threaten the world-class, lifesaving research and economic generating innovation conducted at Roswell Park every day,” said Candace Johnson, PhD, President and CEO of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. “Our local representatives understand the cost burdens unique to our hospital and research institution, and stepped in to make sure that those cuts did not remain. Their unwavering support for Roswell Park’s patients, employees and volunteers is a critical element in our ongoing partnership with New York State, and ensures that we can move forward our vision for continued excellence.”
