Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Acquires Southtowns Hematology/Oncology Practice

Dr. Isosceles Garbes to offer expanded range of services through alignment with comprehensive cancer center

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has acquired the Southtowns hematology/oncology practice of Isosceles Garbes, MD, increasing convenience and access to advanced oncology services for patients. Roswell Park Hematology Oncology Southtowns is the new name of the practice, which will continue to operate out of 3612 Seneca St. in West Seneca, N.Y., as a Roswell Park community cancer practice.

“We welcome Dr. Garbes and his team to the Roswell Park family. This partnership means the best of both worlds for cancer patients, particularly those in and around the Southtowns,” says Candace Johnson, PhD, Roswell Park President & CEO. “Adding this highly respected practice to the Roswell Park network allows us to expand the availability of quality cancer care and the newest treatment options to more patients.”

“We are so privileged to be able to join Roswell Park,” says Dr. Garbes. “For me it feels like coming full circle, since that’s where I did my training in oncology. Being part of a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center means our patients will have access to the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer — resources only an institution like Roswell Park can provide — while remaining in a comfortable community setting.”

Dr. Garbes and his team will continue to provide compassionate care, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. Affiliation with Roswell Park gives the practice and its patients access to a comprehensive slate of cancer diagnostic and treatment services, the ability to participate in multidisciplinary case review, and the opportunity for patients to access treatments not available at other community practices through participation in clinical trials. The agreement also provides opportunities for practice staff to receive training in oncology care.

A physician in solo practice since 1987, Dr. Garbes is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology/hematology, and completed an oncology fellowship at Roswell Park in 1987. He will retain his affiliation with Catholic Medical Partners. Members of his staff include practice manager Kelly Cudney, Molly Grabar, RN, and Arlene Swank, RN.
