Roswell Park Chairs Awarded Fellowships in Radiation, Statistics Societies

BUFFALO, NY —Michael R. Kuettel, MD, PhD, MBA, the Barbara C. & George H. Hyde Chair in Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center(Roswell Park), has been named a 2011 American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Fellow. Dr. Kuettel is among 21 ASTRO members who will receive their Fellow designation during the Society’s 53^rd Annual Meeting, which takes place October 2-6 in Miami Beach, FL.

Dr. Kuettel is the first Buffalo-area physician to be awarded an ASTRO fellowship. Nominees are selected based on their outstanding contributions in the areas of research, patient care, education, leadership and/or service.

Additionally, Alan D. Hutson, PhD, MA, Professor of Oncology and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics, was named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). Hutson was among 58 Fellows elected in recognition of their leadership and work in the field of statistical science. Election is based on candidates’ contributions to advancement of statistics, types and numbers of publications, professional positions held, involvement in ASA, and other accomplishments in statistics.

Dr. Kuettel received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, his doctoral degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and his master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University School of Business. He has previously received fellowships from the American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology and American College of Physician Executives, and serves currently as Chair of the American College of Radiation Oncology Board of Directors.

ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies.

Dr. Hutson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in statistics from the University at Buffalo, and has master’s and doctoral degrees in statistics from the University of Rochester.
