BUFFALO, NY — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) has opened a satellite location in Wheatfield, NY, making comprehensive cancer care available close to home for residents of Niagara County and Grand Island. The new site, Roswell Park Niagara, is located on the ground floor of the Summit HealthPlex, 6934 Williams Road, Suite 300.

Services at the Niagara site will focus on meeting the needs of surgical and dermatological patients. A staff of 10 Roswell Park physicians, a nurse practitioner and other clinical team members are caring for patients at the Niagara site, offering both initial consultations and follow-up care for patients with many types of cancer:

  • Dermatological — skin cancers
  • Gastrointestinal — cancers of the colon/rectum, esophagus, gallbladder, liver, neuroendocrine system (carcinoid tumors), pancreas and stomach
  • Gynecologic — cancers of the cervix, fallopian tubes, ovary, uterus, vagina and vulva
  • Neurological — cancers of the brain and spine
  • Thoracic — cancers of the lung/chest or esophagus, mesothelioma and thoracic carcinoid tumors
  • Urologic — cancers of the bladder, kidney, prostate and testis

Patients who require additional services will be referred to Roswell Park’s main campus or to community providers.

“There’s a real need for cancer services in Niagara County. New cancer cases there grew by 8 percent between 1995 and 2009, and unfortunately those rates appear to be continuing to increase,” notes Donald L. Trump, MD, FACP, President and CEO of Roswell Park.

“The great thing about being able to extend our care to new locations is that those patients will still be part of the multidisciplinary case reviews that all Roswell Park care teams hold every week,” Dr. Trump said. “So the patients we see in Niagara, like all our patients, will have a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, surgeons, radiation specialists, pathologists, radiologists and supportive-services specialists weighing in on their care plan. It’s a proven model, and one that’s associated with the best patient outcomes.”

Free parking is available onsite. For additional information about Roswell Park Niagara, including directions, a physician directory and a detailed listing of services offered, go to https://www.roswellpark.org/niagara.
