BUFFALO, NY — The Rev. Reninger Flores, MA, has joined the Pastoral Care Team at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) as one of two Protestant Chaplains serving the Institute’s patients and visitors.
At RPCI, he will provide spiritual care to patients. He will also work closely with the Supportive & Palliative Care team as well as the other staff chaplains and Department of Pastoral Care volunteers.
Flores hails from Lima, Peru, and is fluent in both English and Spanish. He came to the United States in 1997 to serve as Literature Evangelist in the Northeastern Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Danbury, Ct. He first came to Buffalo in 2005 when he was appointed a church planner for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He has also served as a Chaplain Aide for the Catholic Health System’s McAuley Seton Home Care Corp., and is an Elder to Buffalo Suburban Seventh Day Adventist Church.
A graduate of Peruvian Union University with a bachelor of arts in theology, Flores went on to obtain two master’s degrees — a master of divinity and ordination from the Adventist American Latino Seminary, and a master’s in rehabilitation counseling from the University at Buffalo. He is certified in Pastoral Care Education and Chaplaincy Training.
“Pastor Flores has a gift for connecting with people,” said Beth Lenegan, PhD, Director of Pastoral Care. “He broadens our ministry to Spanish-speaking patients, and enhances the holistic complement of services we provide here at RPCI.”
