BUFFALO, N.Y. — Labatt USA and Tops Friendly Markets have announced a more than $13,000 donation to The Ride For Roswell 2015. Through the “Make Every Case Count” program, a portion of the proceeds from Labatt products sold throughout the month of June in participating locations – including Tops Friendly Markets stores statewide, Applebee’s and Kenyon’s Variety – were donated to The Ride. Funds raised through The Ride For Roswell benefit research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park).

“Every dollar is significant in the fight against cancer, and we’re so grateful to our partners at Labatt and Tops Friendly Markets for their exceptional and ongoing support of The Ride For Roswell,” said Mitch Flynn, The Ride’s founder and co-chair. “Today’s donation has provided critical momentum that will help the scientists and physicians at Roswell Park continue their most promising research studies, and further our mission to find cancer cures and save lives.”

Both Labatt and Tops Friendly Markets are annual sponsors of The Ride. This donation comes in addition to their 2015 sponsorship commitments.

“Headquartered here in Buffalo, Labatt USA is committed to investing in our community and the Make Every Case Count program is just one way we can do that,” said Doug Smith, vice president of sales, Labatt USA, North American Breweries. “As a company, we look for meaningful ways to make an impact in the lives of others. We’re proud to support Roswell Park in the fight against cancer.” Added Frank Curci, Tops chairman, president and CEO,"Tops is all about Neighbors Helping neighbors in the communities we serve and partnering with Labatt on this program was a natural extension of our support for The Ride For Roswell and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.”

The Ride For Roswell is the single largest fundraising event in Western New York and North America’s largest single-day cycling event. In 1996, the first Ride For Roswell had 1,000 riders who raised just over $100,000. This year, more than 8,000 riders raised $4.6 million — a record-setting figure. The Ride has raised more than $34 million for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center over the past 20 years.

The mission of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is to understand, prevent and cure cancer. Founded in 1898, Roswell Park is one of the first cancer centers in the country to be named a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and remains the only facility with this designation in Upstate New York. The Institute is a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the nation’s leading cancer centers; maintains affiliate sites; and is a partner in national and international collaborative programs.
