Dr. Victor Filadora Named Chief of Clinical Services at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

Anesthesiologist and educator will oversee clinical operations at region’s only comprehensive cancer center

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) has named Victor Filadora, MD, MBA, as Chief of Clinical Services. In this new role, Dr. Filadora, an anesthesiologist first appointed to the Institute’s medical staff in 2003, is responsible for managing the comprehensive cancer center’s Ambulatory Services, Perioperative Services, Sterile Processing, Pharmacy, Patient and Family Experience, Endoscopy Services and Therapeutic Services programs, and will also provide leadership and guidance to clinical department administrators throughout the Institute.

Dr. Filadora continues in his roles as Clinical Chief of Perioperative Medicine and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Roswell Park and a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Anesthesiology at the University at Buffalo (UB).

“Since we first recruited him to Roswell Park a decade ago to establish our preoperative services program, Dr. Filadora has led the design and implementation of several key clinical projects,” says Roswell Park President and CEO Candace Johnson, PhD. “His experience and his thoughtful, strategic, patient-centered approach make him an outstanding match for this new opportunity.”

Dr. Filadora joined Roswell Park in 2003 from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, where he served as Chief Resident for the Department of Anesthesiology. He served on the staff of Newton-Wellesley Hospital and the Tufts University School of Medicine faculty from 2004–05, at which point he returned to Roswell Park as Chief of Perioperative Medicine and Director of the Center for Preoperative Evaluation.

A member of Roswell Park’s Medical Staff Executive Committee, he serves on the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ Faculty Council and its Resident Grievance, Graduate Medical Education and Anesthesiology Admissions committees, and is a Senior Business and Healthcare Advisor to the UB School of Management.

An accredited Royal College of Physicians educator, Dr. Filadora has helped lead several collaborative projects involving the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and UB School of Management. He frequently extends his expertise in perioperative services as a consultant to health-care systems in the areas of operations and governance.

After earning his undergraduate degree in psychobiology from the State University of New York at Binghamton, Dr. Filadora went on to earn his medical degree, a master’s degree in natural science/biochemistry and an MBA, awarded summa cum laude, from UB. He is a member of professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Massachusetts Medical Society, Medical Society of the State of New York and New York State Society of Anesthesiologists. A Buffalo resident, he is married and has two children.
