Dr. Michael Kuettel Elected to ASTRO Board of Directors

Michael R. Kuettel, MD, PhD, MBA, FASTRO, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). His four-year term as a member of the Board begins with ASTRO’s annual business meeting Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. CT, which will be held during ASTRO’s 57th Annual Meeting at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Kuettel will serve two years as Health Policy Council Vice-Chair and then two years as Health Policy Council Chair, and he joins two newly elected members to ASTRO’s Board. In making the announcement, Bruce G. Haffty, MD, FASTRO, Chair of the Board of Directors said, "Dr. Kuettel brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will strengthen ASTRO’s ability to lead our specialty. As we navigate through the challenging transition to a value-based health care infrastructure, he will join other new Board members to direct ASTRO’s efforts to continue to provide substantive and meaningful dialogue and evidence to ensure the clinical excellence, quality, safety and efficacy of radiation therapy.”

As Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park, Dr. Kuettel oversees clinical care for patients with a particular interest in the treatment of prostate cancer. Dr. Kuettel’s service to ASTRO includes his current roles as co-chair of the Health Policy Committee and as the ASTRO Advisor to the American Medical Association (AMA)/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC).
