Delaware North’s Dennis Szefel joins Roswell Park Board of Directors

BUFFALO, NY — Dennis Szefel, Chief Strategy Officer for Delaware North Companies, has joined the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (Roswell Park) Board of Directors. He was appointed to a three-year term on the board by Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, Speaker of the New York State Assembly, based on recommendations from the Western New York delegation to the New York State Legislature.

Delaware North is a global leader in hospitality and food service and one of the largest privately held companies in the world. A member of the Buffalo-based company’s global leadership team, Szefel has been associated with Delaware North for more than 40 years. He was named to his current position in 2011 after being named chairman of the company’s global business, and had served most recently as chief administrative officer.

Szefel was awarded Delaware North’s highest honor, the Chairman’s Award of Excellence, in 2005. He sits on the boards of U.S. Travel, St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and St. Gregory the Great, and serves as Vice Chairman of the board for Buffalo Hearing and Speech.

Along with his wife, Theresa, he is co-founder of The Dennis Szefel Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation. Named in honor of the Szefels’ late son, Dennis Szefel Jr., who passed away from leukemia in 1999, the tournament has raised significant funds toward leukemia-related research and initiatives at Roswell Park.

“It is truly an honor to be appointed to the Board of one of the premier cancer institutes in the country and a catalyst for Buffalo’s continued renaissance,” Szefel said.

Szefel received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Canisius College and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program in Management Development.
