Azabdaftari Appointed to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

BUFFALO, NY - Gissou Azabdaftari, MD, was recently appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Azabdaftari joined Roswell Park from the University of Colorado, Denver, Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Azabdaftari graduated from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, and completed a residency in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology at Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston, MA. From there, Dr. Azabdaftari moved to Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, to do a surgical pathology fellowship with concentration in genitourinary pathology and soft tissue sarcomas. In 2005, she completed a cytopathology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical Center. She specializes in performing and interpreting fine needle aspirations.

She isBoard Certified in anatomic pathology and is a member of the American Board of Cytopathology. Dr. Azabdaftari is also involved with several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the United Sates and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists.

In 2003 and 2004, Dr. Azabdaftari received awards from the Alumni Association, Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington MA, “for outstanding academic achievements in the specialty of anatomic pathology.” She is the editor for Year Book of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (bone and soft tissue edition).
