Junior Robotic Surgery Challenge

The Junior Robotic Surgery Challenge (JRSC) is a program that offers high school students the opportunity to spend a summer exploring, learning, and innovating in a high-tech, fast-paced medical environment. Students learn about the healthcare field, with an emphasis on medicine and surgery. They are exposed to career opportunities in healthcare and medical technology and are challenged by curriculum taught by a diverse set of leading professionals in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) disciplines. This year, when asked if their interest in these STEAM fields had increased after the program, 92% of JRSC participants responded “Yes.” Throughout JRSC, emphasis is placed on four essential skills required to succeed in any arena: ethics, compassion, teamwork, and leadership. Students learn how these abilities impact surgery and how to further develop these skills in their own lives.
