ATLAS Program Outline

The ATLAS Training Program is designed to meet the needs of trainees.

You’ll have weekends free to explore the festivals, landmarks, culture, and superb international cuisine of the Greater Buffalo region, or you may participate in independent study in the ATLAS training lab, which is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Minimally Invasive Surgery: Laparoscopic Approach

The Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery program (FLS) can be used to teach and assess both cognitive and technical skills related to laparoscopic surgery. The curriculum is proficiency-based, so trainees review the materials and practice independently until they reach a predetermined level of proficiency. The FLS training is complementary. Because all residents are now required to pass the FLS exam, but there are few facilities for the exams, ATLAS also hosts exams for local cohorts.

Minimally Invasive Surgery: Robotic Approach

The Fundamental Skills of Robotic Surgery (FSRS) program can be used to teach and assess both cognitive and technical skills related to robot-assisted surgery. The curriculum is proficiency-based, so trainees review the materials and practice independently until they reach a predetermined level of proficiency. FSRS training is included in the one-week ATLAS training program as measures of proficiency are often a requirement for fellowship opportunities and institutions with newly purchased robotic systems.
