Biography:
I completed my undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Biology & Society, with an emphasis on public health and human populations in 1998. I completed a combined MD/PhD as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (completed 2008), with my doctoral dissertation focusing on pharmacoepidemiology. My post-graduate training started at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Internal Medicine in the Physician Scientist Training Pathway (2008-2013), with my post-doctoral mentored research fellowship focusing on smoking cessation in cardiac rehabilitation patients, as well as venous thromboembolism epidemiology in the Women's Health Initiative. I then completed additional training at the University of Rochester's General Preventive Medicine residency (2013-2015) program. After training, I worked as a medical director and attending physician in the Buffalo area for several sub-acute and long-term care facilities focusing on a "treatment in place" model with a goal of increasing timeliness of treatment for preventable conditions that may result in emergency room visits or hospitalizations.
