Description of Duties:
The Senior Pathologist Assistant directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in performing gross surgical, frozen sectioning, tissue procurement and autopsy procedures. Supervises technical and non-technical staff involved in the preparation of tissue samples used in laboratory testing. Performs gross examination of surgical specimens and biopsies; assists with performing frozen sections, processing surgical specimens and biopsies and the performance of autopsies; provides oversight of residents and students, Histotechnologist IIIs and fellows involved in processing specimens and tissue procurement. Provides direct administrative support to the Department Chairperson and Administrator, performs monitors and reviews simple and/or complex procedures.
Applicants must have a license to practice as a Pathologist Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Certified Histological Technician in the State of New York; or eligibility for licensure as a Pathologist Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Certified Histological Technician in the State of New York. In addition, applicants must have certification as a Pathologist Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP); or eligibility for certification as a Pathologist Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree that meets the minimum qualification for certification as a Pathologist Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP). The preferred candidate will have previous supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory and previous experience as a pathology assistant in an oncology setting.
