Description of Duties:
The Senior Laboratory Animal Services Attendant performs a full range of activities that involve both direct and indirect animal contact including: disinfects and sanitizes animal quarters and procedure rooms; operates LSAR equipment with appropriate training as needed such as cage processing equipment, irradiator, floor machines; provides training and instruction of special animal care tasks and equipment use; provides daily recordkeeping and animal census, assists supervisor in preparation of schedules and work assignments of other lab animal service attendants, provider oversight of laboratory animal service attendants as a backup for the supervisory staff, performs task that directly impact the health and well-being of laboratory animals, weekend and holiday duties as required on a rotational basis.
Applicants must have a High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in an animal laboratory environment or a related field that includes direct experience with animal-handling procedures. The preferred candidate will have experience working in a laboratory animal facility where duties involved sanitization and indirect and/or direct animal contact. They will also have knowledge of operating mechanized equipment and certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
