The Senior Laboratory Animal Service Attendant performs a full range of activities that involve both direct and indirect animal contact that directly impacts the health and well-being of the laboratory animals. The Senior Laboratory Animal Service Attendant disinfects and sanitizes animal quarters and procedure rooms, operates Laboratory Animal Resource equipment with appropriate training as needed (i.e. cage processing equipment, irradiator, floor machines). The Senior Laboratory Animal Service Attendant provides training and instruction of specific animal care tasks and equipment use, provides daily record keeping and animal census, and prepares schedules and work assignments of other Laboratory Animal Service Attendants. The Senior Laboratory Animal Service Attendant provides oversight of Laboratory Animal Service Attendants as a back up for the supervisory staff and will have holiday duties as required on a rotational basis.
Applicants must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in an animal laboratory environment or a related field that includes direct experience with animal-handling procedures.
Incumbents must obtain certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Technician Certification Program within the one year probationary period for this position as a condition of continued employment.
The preferred candidate will have experience working in a laboratory animal facility where duties included sanitization and indirect and/or direct animal contact, knowledge of operating mechanized equipment and a certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
