Description of Duties:
The Senior Biostatistician provides scientific programming support for collaborative bioinformatics application within the Roswell Park community including the analysis and interpretation of high throughput biomedical data such as multi-platform next-generation microarray an/ord sequencing data. The employee will actively seek, bring in and implement cutting-edge tools and algorithm, as necessary, to drive projects forward.
The candidate should possess a Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Biometry or a related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in Biostatistics or Biomathematics Consulting. The preferred candidate will have a degree in a scientific or computational discipline and preferably a postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) and/or significant experience in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, good programming/scripting skills (e.g. R, Perl, Python) and a working knowledge of a range of bioinformatics software tools and database resources. The candidate will have experience in : Consulting on experimental design students and postdocs in the laboratory; data QC and statistical analysis; integration and visualization of data from multiple platforms; developing data analysis strategies and contributing to design and implementation of analysis pipelines using best-of-breed bioinformatics software packages/tools; the use of statistical methods and/or software packages for analysing high-throughput sequencing data or microarray data, especially using R and associated Bioconductor packages. The role requires excellent communication skills, involving regular interaction with researchers and other bioinformaticians as well as contributing to manuscripts and grants writing; good time management skills to support multiple projects concurrently, and with the ability to work well in a team are essential.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
